​When you're looking for someone to guide you through one of the most important financial decisions of your life, you want someone trustworthy. That is why I inject character and years of expertise into everything I do. I want my girls to grow up in a world where neighbor helps neighbor, integrity still means something, and your word is the most valuable thing you can give someone. That is how I was raised on our family farm in Ankeny, and it's the attitude I bring to real estate.

My path into real estate was serendipitous, no doubt about it. But in hindsight I could not have planned a more perfect education to prepare me for this career that I love and have now been doing for almost a decade. After all, helping folks make educated decisions during major life events has been the story of my professional career, from Capitol Hill to the closing table.

I grew up on a family farm, where I first learned hard work, entrepreneurship and fiscal responsibility - all skills that would prove invaluable, as I now advise clients on one of the biggest financial decisions of their lives.

After graduating from Central College with Honors I was thrilled to accept a position with an Iowan Senator in Washington DC as a Legislative Correspondent. It was in this position that I first grew to appreciate what a privilege it is for anyone to put their trust in another human being - in this case a public servant. I saw how integrity, honestly and following through on your promises builds and holds that precious trust… I strive to demonstrate these same character traits with my own real estate clients everyday.

When family called me back to Iowa, I accepted a position as a Paralegal at Meredith Corporation in Des Moines. I was blessed to work under a boss that mentored me in not only the legal profession, helping me grow confident reading legal language and dissecting contracts, but in life as well. He supported my efforts to expand my education while working full time. Over my 5 years at Meredith, I attended classes at Drake University to obtain my Master of Arts degree in Education. It was a bittersweet day when I had to say goodbye to a team I loved to begin my student teaching.

As we all know, life often unfolds in a non-linear fashion. While I was at Meredith, I met and married my husband and gave birth to our first child. This ignited a passion to support women and families on their own journeys into parenthood. I began using my vacation days to attend births as a labor doula, and I started teaching natural childbirth classes out of my home. What started as a hobby quickly became a thriving business. So after student teaching instead of working full time in a traditional classroom, I opted to stay home with my children and expand my childbirth business. I was able to use my newly acquired teaching skills, just in a different way. 

It was as a labor doula that I truly learned what an advocate was, and how critical it can be for folks to have someone working on their side through major life decisions. I spent the next 6 years teaching parents and attending hundreds of births, holding their hands through often the most precious, intense, and at times painful or tragic moments of their lives. I attempted to do this with expertise, compassion, commitment, a level head, and a deep sense of honor for being asked.

As my own children grew older, it became clear that the on-call schedule of a doula was not sustainable, as much as I loved the work. It was my husband that suggested I use the entrepreneurial skills I had honed along with my passion for teaching to help people buy and sell real estate. At first, I’ll admit I was skeptical- after all, could anything compare to those first moments a parent holds their child?! But I was willing to try. I quickly encountered plenty of opportunities to research, examine the data, and teach in the real estate realm. After all, most folks don’t buy and sell a home every day. And even if they’ve done it before, it's often been a while so they are thrilled to have an expert ensure that the transaction goes as smoothly as possible.

Whether its exploring options for more space for the baby, downsizing for more financial freedom, or to discuss a market analysis for listing one's home, I'm here to help. I specialize in the complete home buying/selling process - new construction, resales, luxury homes, relocation, first time home buyer, acreages, even real estate investing ... you name it, your home is my forté!!! I've literally sold hundreds of homes over the past several years. And my husband and I practice what we preach... We have several rental homes we've purchased, remodeled and manage as long term investments.

I often get asked what is the best part of my career as a Realtor? It is by far the joy I feel helping a client make a major life decision with confidence and excitement.  My real estate clients become friends, and I enjoy seeing them around town, at client appreciation events, or best of all - when they call me again to sell a home! I look forward to many more years as a Realtor and friend to my clients; advocating, researching, and supporting them as they make their own non-linear journeys through life.

It truly is an honor to be along for the ride!!!
